Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory (Sail and Motor):

This course is of minimum 40 hour tuition plus three assessment papers. This can either be a 5 day intensive course or on a night school basis. To attend this course assumed knowledge is navigation to shorebased day skipper standard.

Aim

The aim of a shorebased Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore course is to provide the student with the advanced level of knowledge required to gain the full certification for the Coast Skipper / Yachtmaster qualification.

Course Content

  • Navigation - Position fixing,. Course to steer. D.R.s and E.P.s. Magnetic compass. Chart recognition.
  • Rules of the Road - To a full understanding of all Rules pertaining to safe navigation including distress signals.
  • Meteorology - An in-depth knowledge of frontal depressions and fog formation.
  • Passage planning and GPS.
  • Safety at Sea, Stability, Customs.
  • Anchoring

1. RYA Yachtmaster Book 3. RYA 'A Seaman's Guide to the Rule of the Road.'
2. RYA Meteorology Book 4. RYA Stability Book

All course materials will be provided.

The recommended pre course reading and the '5011 chart symbols and abbreviations' are additional charges and can be sent once the booking is confirmed or can be purchased onsite.

All theory assessment papers are graded on-site
